Curried Chevon on Skewer with Oven-Dried Tomatoes and Tzatziki Drizzle showed up on the buffet table at the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture's Harvest Celebration Dinner held at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts and Hilton in Harrisburg. The meat was donated by PMGPA members. Over two hundred people attended the event.

PMGPA Board Member Sandra Miller spoke at the Pennsylvania Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Festival in Kempton (www.paenergyfest.com). She gave two presentations-an introduction to meat goat production and how farmers can integrate meat goats into existing agricultural operations to generate more income and decrease the use of herbicides and mechanical weed removal.

November 2006
PMGPA Board Member Sandra Miller gave two presentations on Marketing Meat Goat to Ethnic Communities. The first one was for Penn State Cooperative Extension in Franklin County and then again for the North Carolina Cooperative Extension's Successful Small Farms Opportunities Conference in Louisburg, North Carolina.

PMGPA members successfully competed in the Open Boer Goat Show at the 91st Annual Pennsylvania State Farm Show.
Doug Masser of DTM Boer Goats with Champion Percentage Boer Doe Kid, BEST OF SHOW Percentage Boer Doe, 1st place Percentage Boer Doe Kid 6-8 mo., 1st place Fullblood/Purebred Boer Doe Kids 9-12 mo., Champion FB/PB Boer Doe Kid, BEST OF SHOW FB/PB Boer Doe, 1st place Fullblood/Purebred Buck Kids 6-9 mo., and Champion FB/PB Boer Buck Kid.
Linden Bates of Bates Boer Goat Farm with 1st place 9-12 mo Percentage Doe Kid, Champion Sr FB/PB Doe, 1st place Yearling Buck, Champion Sr Buck,BEST OF SHOW FB/PB Boer Buck.
Jessica Jones of Painted Hand Farm, who was competing in an open show for the first time, took 1st place with her Percentage Boer Yearling Does and Champion Percentage Boer Yearling along with 1st place Percentage Boer Senior Does and Reserve Champion Percentage Boer Senior Doe.
Amanda Jenkins of Goat Mountain Farm took 4th place 6-9 Percentage Doe Kids, Chelsea Jenkins 4th place 9-12 Percentage Doe Kids.4th place 9-12 FB/PB Bucks.
Jessica Jones, Amanda & Chelsea Jenkins also competed in the Junior Meat Breeding Goat show.
PMGPA members were invited evaluate a tool for the marketing module of Penn State's meat goat program developed by Dr. Harold Harpster. The program consists of a spreadsheet allowing producers to estimate breeding dates and days on feed required to produce the desired animal type for a specific marketing endpoint such as ethnic holidays. PMGPA Board Member Sandra Miller gave a workshop at the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agricultural Farming for the Future conference entitled Tapping into the Ethnic Markets. (www.pasafarming.org)
PMGPA Board member Julie Maxwell spoke to the Lebanon County 4-H about meat goat management and marketing.

The Second Annual PMGPA Club Goat & Show Wether Seminar has added a sale to this year's event by request. Last year this event was attended by approximately 200 people. AMGA Judge Bill Leib will be presenting prior to the sale featuring around 100 quality animals.
